What is Botulinum Toxin?
Botulinum toxin, widely referred to as 'Botox' is a powerful rejuvenating agent which has been used for decades in the cosmetic industry to reduce the development and appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It works by blocking signals from the nerve endings to muscles in the desired area to prevent contraction and therefore a wrinkle forming. Whilst it can be incredibly effective it isn't a permanent solution, any typically results last 3-6 months.
BOTOX!
Although most people will refer to this treatment as 'Botox', this is a trademarked name for a brand of botulinum toxin. When going for an anti-wrinkle injection you aren't necessarily getting 'Botox' as there are many different types of toxin used in the industry, so it is always a good idea to research the product used before going ahead with the treatment. Brands such as 'Dysport', 'Azzalure' and 'Bocouture' are some of the most popular brands used in the UK.
Which brand is the best?
Of course many might argue, but in my opinion Botox is my favourite product to use. It comes with the larger price tag, but as a widely researched and used product across the globe, it will always be my go to.
The main reasons for my opinion are;
* It is relatively safe as far a Botculinum toxin goes. Unlike some other products Botox doesn't spread as much once injected. Whilst it often requires more injection points, it is less likely that the product can be dispersed into a muscle it is not intended for, and occur complications.
* Some people can form a resistance to Botculinum toxin and it may not continue to have the desired effect, this is much less likely to happen with 'Botox' in comparison to some other products.
*As such a widely researched products, both clients and Aesthetic Practitioners can be confident in the product and it's safety.
